Michael Bisping vs. Vitor Belfort set for 2013 – UFC News
It seems like Briton fighter Michael Bisping is ready to do anything in order to score a title shot at middleweight champion Anderson Silva. Bisping is just a fight or two away from being the number one contender, and he wants to make sure he reaches that
stage with pride. In order to do so, he is facing every possible opponent in the division to prove his mettle. Bisping has now taken on a fight against one of the best middleweight contenders of all time Vitor Belfort.
The bout between the two will headline UFC’s Brazil card on January 19, according to an announcement made on UFC’s website. The venue for the event is not yet decided.
“As we had anticipated, 2013 will be a very busy year for the Brazilian fans,” said Marshall Zelaznik, UFC managing director of international development. “We are very happy about this Jan. 19 event, which will kick off our calendar for this year like UFC
Rio 2 did in 2012.
“There are still a few details to be settled before we decide the host city. We expect to announce the venue over the next weeks.”
Belfort is a former UFC light heavyweight champion who will be making his return to the middleweight division following his loss at the hands of Jon Jones, the current light heavyweight champion. Belfort performed well against Jones and was nearly at the
verge of claiming the title but Jones came up as a stronger opponent. Now, Belfort is looking forward to set his dominance at the middleweight division.
On the other hand, Bisping is coming off a victory over Brian Stann, middleweight contender. Bisping defeat Stann via unanimous decision.
While Bisping was hoping to land a title shot after defeating Stann, it seems like he needs to do more before reaching the high point. He is currently ranked as number 5 in the division, and in order to reach Silva, he needs to become the number one contender.
There is no news as to whether a victory over Belfort would take Bisping to gates of a fight against Silva.
