Michael Bisping wants middleweight division to move on – UFC News
While middleweight champion Anderson Silva believes none of the fighters in the division are worthy of being his opponent, Briton fighter Michael Bisping thinks otherwise. According to Bisping, if Silva is not up for a fight against the number one contender
then there should be an interim title. Essentially, Bisping wants his bout against Vitor Belfort scheduled for next year to be for an interim title.
“Weidman is now out for up to six months and Anderson won't be fighting until May - and even then it looks like it won't be a middleweight title defense,” said Bisping on his official website. “According to my boss and their boss - Mr Dana F White - Anderson
and GSP will have a super-fight in May and who knows what happens then? Anderson could win and then fight Jon Jones at light heavyweight in September and go the entire year - 18-months and more - since defending the middleweight belt.”
Bisping has spent this entire year trying to get a fight against Anderson Silva but unfortunately, he has not been successful, and there are no chances in the near future of him getting a title shot at Silva.
Bisping has previously stated that if Silva is unable to compete against the top contenders then the UFC must prepare an interim title for the rest. According to Bisping, the division is at a standstill just because Silva is not willing to take on any of
the contenders.
Bisping further wrote that the super-fight between Georges St-Pierre and Anderson Silva might extend until the mid of next year of even later, in which case the contenders of the middleweight division would have nowhere to go.
Bisping recently defeated American fighter Brian Stann to escalate in the rankings. He is now among the top five contenders for the title. If he defeats Belfort, he will probably be the number one contender for the title. His only competitor is Chris Weidman
who stands his equal when it comes to their fighting skills.
According to Silva, the middleweight division is currently hotter than it has ever been and it is time to create mega-fights instead of waiting on Silva.
