Michael Bohl believes that Nick D’Arcy will excel at the Australian trials for the London Olympics
Michael Bohl, mentor to Pan Pacific silver medallist Nick D’Arcy believes that his student will excel at the upcoming Australian Selection Trials for the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Bohl expressed that Swimming Australia’s timely decision to include D’Arcy in the potential list of candidates, which will be able to qualify for the London Olympics has put the pressure off his student and now, he will be able to give his 100 percent at the forthcoming Olympic trials.
The 24-year-old D’Arcy, who was caught up in the hysteria of being excluded from his potentially first Olympic Games due to his controversies in the past, has finally been released from the pressure and will be selected in the Australian team, if proves his qualification.
The decision was made by the Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) after Swimming Australia (SA) re-confirmed that they want to keep D’Arcy in their shadow team.
There was a delay from SA’s side, which at first included D’Arcy in their shadow team, but when AOC demanded re-confirmation, they hesitated a little bit. Nevertheless, AOC imposed slight pressure on SA to give their suggestion, so they could be able to publicise the decision in time.
SA’s decision came after their board meeting in Perth on last Friday, where they considered D’Arcy’s current form and his improved behaviour and rendered their decision to AOC.
Bohl and D’Arcy were delighted with the AOC’s decision.
“I'm sure (this) has been at the back of his mind," Bohl said.
“But he's been working very hard and done very well since he's come back. ... He's a had a couple of disappointments there but hopefully now he can really knuckle down and now he can focus totally on getting himself ready for the trials,” he added
Previously, D’Arcy was elected in the Australian team to the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games but was debarred from the squad after he attacked former swimmer, Simon Cowley at a nightclub.
The 24-year-old D’Arcy is contented to have this opportunity and stressed that he would not do anything, which would bring any harm to his qualification for the London Olympics.
