Michael Bourn fancies $100 million contract, according to rumours - MLB Update
Centre fielder for Atlanta Braves in 2012 regular season, Michael Bourn is looking for a new deal around $100 million, as per the rumours. He is a free agent at the moment.
It remains to be seen whether the Braves can dare hammering out an agreement with him in the face of such demands coming from him. Sources claim that Bourn hired an agent namely Scott Boras for the sole reason of getting an extravagant deal from any of the
clubs in the offseason.
Bourn is known for his hustle while running through the bases. Apart from being an immaculate fielder, he gets to the bases very quickly. For the same reason, the Braves deployed him as a leadoff hitter in the recently concluded regular season.
Bourn did not disappoint the Braves. He hit .274 in the season, which is not bad in light of the fact that he remained strong defensively. He made incredible plays in the field.
His credentials can encourage a number of clubs to pursue him in the free agent market.
However, the fact he looks for $100 million contract can discourage any interested organisations.
He has not yet reached that level in his career where he can be granted such an expensive deal by the clubs. Teams account for various factors whenever they brace for clinching a high profile agreement.
While Bourn fulfils the criteria when it comes to defence, with regard to offence he still has a lot of work to do. This means that it is hard to expect that the Braves or any other team in the Major League will be ready to offer him the contract as per
his wishes.
Losing him in the free agent market will not be an ideal scenario for the Braves. Bourn has adjusted well to the culture of the club as he is all set to unleash his best in the upcoming seasons.
He is improving after every year. If he continues this way, he can turn out to be a utility player for the team.
