Michael Bourn may join San Francisco Giants after this season through free agency - MLB Update
All-Star centre-fielder, Michael Bourn may become part of the San Francisco Giants after the end of this season, as he will be a free agent by then. Reports suggest that they are interested in possibly signing him. Neither the Atlanta Braves nor Bourn has
confirmed yet as to where the latter will be ending up on completion of his time with the club.
Bourn has been terrific on the plate this season and has become one of the forces that have taken the Braves to their present second position on the National League East Division table.
Due to this, he was among the nominees for the ‘Final Vote’ balloting, held to select one player for the All-Star Game roster.
Although he lost and did not win enough votes, he was later inducted into the roster as a replacement for Ian Desmond, one of the All-Stars who got injured.
As Bourn prepares for playing in Kansas City on July 10, he will be looking to keep his momentum going and if given opportunity, turn out a valuable hitter for the National League.
If Bourn can stand out on the day and keep his top-notch form afloat throughout rest of the second half of the season, then free agency will be an ultra-hyped event. The chances for inking a better deal, in terms of money, will be high.
Meanwhile, that will make it difficult for the Braves to retain him. Since, they have already limited financial resources and awarding contract extension worth millions of dollars will be tough for the organisation.
With regard to interest shown by the Giants, it is not the first time that they have sought Bourn. In-fact, they have been keeping track of developments in this regard and are looking for the right moment.
Meanwhile, Bourn talks of whether he is going to stay with the Braves or not. He stated that negotiations have not gone underway as yet. However, he appears to be pleased with his current organisation. Therefore, if Braves show interest, Bourn will likely
want to carry on with them.
"Not right now,'' he said. "It's cool.''
As the season approaches its end, where the Bourn is going to land in the future will be known.
