Michael Bourn thankful to fans despite losing Final Vote for All-Star team selection - MLB
The Atlanta Braves’ centre-fielder Michael Bourn is grateful to the fans that came rushing in his support during penultimate hours of the completion of the ‘Final Vote’ for election of a player to the All-Star Game. Although, he did not win the spot and
the St. Louis Cardinals third-baseman David Freese was elected, he is extremely pleased with the support he received.
While his fate for the ASG appearance has been decided now, injury by the Miami Marlins’ out-fielder Giancarlo Stanton can still keep him in contention for playing on the day. If within one or two days the sore knee that Stanton is suffering remains a problem
for his swings and mechanics, replacements will be announced. That can pave the way for Bourn.
Bourn has been playing like a true All-Star throughout the season. High scoring games the Braves played have seen Bourn making important contributions. Thus far, he is hitting .305, with seven home-runs and 32 RBIs.
On being unable to make it to the ASG, he is not disappointed with the Final Vote balloting results. He will be taking the break as an opportunity to rest and relish some off-time from the field. He is upbeat to perform equally well in the remaining part
of the season.
“I want to tell them thank you,” Bourn said. “That meant a lot, having fans behind me the whole way. Everybody in the clubhouse, everybody that was on Twitter, Facebook — whoever tried to vote for me, I just want to say thank you for all the support. It
didn’t work out, but it was a good run. Freese won it and he’ll be going to the All-Star game. I’m going to be taking four days of chilling and get ready for the second half.”
Meanwhile, he will be eyeing on taking the Braves closer to the top position on the National League East Division table. Since a contribution from the offence is going to play an extremely important role, Bourn will be aware of his responsibilities. He will
like to keep the momentum going and continue putting up his belligerent shows on the plate.
Along with the third-baseman Chipper Jones and catcher Brian McCann, he can help the Braves’ offence formidable and keep it afloat throughout the season.
