Michael Campbell may miss another cut at the ISPS Handa Wales Open
Michael Campbell shot a 2-over 73 in the first round of the ISPS Handa Wales Open, and entered a difficult zone and can miss the cut.
The 43-year-old Kiwi worked hard to score. He was planning to play the tournament till Sunday but a poor score took a toll on his position at The Celtic Manor Resort in the City of Newport, Wales.
He got off to an unimpressive start and shot three consecutive pars. Then he carded two bogeys and one birdie on the front nine holes.
He started the back nine holes again at par. He shot one more birdie on the eleventh hole and a bogey on the twelfth hole. He also shot a double-bogey on the par-4 fourteenth hole and added another birdie on the fifteenth hole.
He finished six strokes behind the leader and was listed in the projected cut section. He has to play well in the second round, so that he can make it to the third round, else he will be missing the cut.
Campbell turned professional in 1985 and won 15 professional events so far. Among them, he impressed all his fans at the US Open in 2005. He defeated the world famous Tiger Woods by two strokes and won the first major event.
He has also recorded eight European Tour wins and his best was recorded at the Heineken Classic in 2000. He defeated Thomas Bjorn by six strokes. He again continued his amazing performance and defended the Heineken Classic title again by five strokes lead.
On the other hand, he has won seven PGA Tour of Australasia and three Challenge Tour events. He has been working hard since January and has not won any title so far.
He has played eight European Tour events in 2012 so far and was only able to make the cut at the Maybank Malaysian Open. In the rest, he missed the cut among all and displayed a mediocre performance.
Campbell has to focus on his gaming performance. He has to practice to make his game better and hiring a new caddie can also be helpful, who can get him out of troubled times.
