Michael Carrick insists winning the League title is first priority
Manchester United midfielder, Michael Carrick wants United to play with a bit more style, but added that winning the league remains to be their first priority.
Manchester United are currently on top of the league table, and yet they have not really been playing their best football this season.
Manchester City, the local rivals, are level on points but behind on goal difference, and Manchester United also have two games in hand against them. The Red Devils remain unbeaten till now this season.
Manchester United's last game in the league, against Tottenham, was a great example of how the season has gone for them so far. Playing away from home, the league leaders looked short of ideas in their attack. The opposition keeper was hardly tested and,
in the end, they had to work hard to even get one point from the game.
Carrick, who was playing against his former club, Tottenham, said that the performance in that game was, no doubt, disappointing and they would want to improve hugely on it. He said that United would have to lift their game in such difficult ties to earn
crucial points, and that would count big at the end of the season.
Carrick added that the team needs to play better in the midfield and create more chances up front- especially when playing away from home. The midfielder said that in such games, one can only hope that an individual's moment would win you the match, but
that does not always happen. However, he reiterated that still his team remains on top of the table and, at the end of the day, that is what matters, and they intend to keep it that way till the end.
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international said that he normally does not enjoy one-sided games, like the one against Blackburn, earlier, where United won 7-0. Carrick added that it is the hard fought games that get his juices flowing, but he would prefer to have a win at
the end rather than a hard fought draw.
The former Tottenham and West Ham player said that when United dropped points away from home this season, he was not disappointed but pleased that they managed to come home with a draw. Carrick added that at the end of a long season, these hard fought points
are the ones that probably count the most.
Referring to last season, when Manchester United ended up losing the title to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 by one point on the final day, Carrick said, "We know when we haven't played great, but there is a determination within the squad when you are not playing well- it is a
case of finding a way to win. We've been quite good at that over the years and it can be vital".
Manchester United take on Birmingham this weekend, at Old Trafford. After losing 2 points to the Blues away from home, United would be keen to get all 3 at home.
When http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Carrick-c25282 was asked about what he thought of the red card issued of his team mate, Rafael Da Silva, in the game against the Spurs, he said that the first yellow was probably fair, but there was no doubt that the 2nd one was uncalled
for. He added that there are a number of players in the game that con the referees, so it is not even the Referees fault as they do not know when a player is faking and when he is not.
