Manchester United’s midfielder Michael Carrick has come out and admitted that United were disappointing in their 3-3 draw with F.C Basel at Old Trafford on Tuesday night as the Reds drew their second UEFA Champions League match
in a row. Sir http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson was unforgiving in his post-match remarks as well as the Red Devils shot themselves in the foot in the second half when they gave up a two goal lead and conceded three goals in around about 30 minutes from the visiting team. Basel
proved to be clinical in goal but Manchester United’s defence was all over the place on certain occasions during the encounter.
United’s two draws at the beginning of the UEFA Champions’ League group stage have put them in a precarious situation now as they would want to win their remaining group stage fixtures in order to quality as the top ranked team
through their group which includes Portuguese giants Benfica, Swiss champions F.C Basel along with the Romanian underdogs Otelul Galati.
United now have to play against Norwich City at home before the international break kicks in but the UEFA Champions League will surely be their priority after the break ends in the month of October.
Michael Carrick who started for Manchester United against F.C Basel said in his post match interview, “We’ve got no excuses, we threw it away. It’s not like us at all. We said at half-time it wasn't over. We’ve given ourselves
a lot of hard work but we’re capable of doing it. The situation is not the end of the world but it's not ideal either. It was a bit of a shock to find ourselves 3-2 down after being 2-0 up. To lose tonight would have not been good at all.”
He added, “We'll take a draw but it still feels a bit like a defeat. But we’ll not get too down about it, we’ll move on and bounce back. We have to. We did some really good things and some not so good things." http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Welbeck scored
the first two goals for Manchester United but it was Ashley Young who secured a draw for the home team with an injury time equalizer via a perfectly placed header.
Carrick went onto praise his international team mate as he said, “Ashley has settled in quickly and bought into everything about the club and how we approach things. He’s got bags of character; he kept going tonight and got his
reward. What we expect of ourselves really is to keep going. We believe that if we get a chance, we’ll score.”
