Bordeaux president has admitted that the 28-year-old would be interested in moving to Scotland with Celtic more than willing to sign the defender from the Ligue 1 side
Bordeaux president, Jean-Louis Triaud has given Celtic the green light by opening the door for Michael Ciani to make a move to the Scottish champions.
Just 18 months ago, Ciani was linked to Arsenal and it was speculated that the London club are willing to pay 10 million Pounds for the highly-rated defender. However, The Gunners pulled the plug on the deal and the Frenchman stayed with Bordeaux.
Despite a sudden dip in form last season, the former Lorient man was a regular starter for Les Girondins. Bordeaux wanted to hold onto their star player but have given up on that and now Ciani is expected to leave the club in summer.
A few other clubs are in the race for the defender's signature. Newcastle United, Wigan Athletic and Seville have shown their interest in the player but according to reports, Celtic are in pole position to attain the services of the player.
Michael Ciani has held talks with the Hoops and it is expected that the player will sign for the Scottish club this summer in a 1 million Pounds move.
While talking to reporters, Jean-Louis Triaud admitted that his player wants to move to Celtic and thinks that he would be an instant hit there.
"Would Celtic want to sign Ciani? Would Ciani be interested in moving to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Scotland-c756 to play for them? Why not? It's a big club and he's a very good player, so it's a good match.”
Triaud said that Bordeaux will not stand in the way of Ciani’s move to the Hoops but stressed that the player will not be allowed to leave for nothing. The club president stated that they have to be realistic and will only demand what he is worth.
“While we wouldn’t let Ciani go for nothing, we are realistic with what he is worth.”
“Football is no longer a world full of rich clubs. The money has gone and all clubs are struggling so we can’t demand what we used to be able to ask for a play of his quality.”
Jean-Louis Triaud believes that Michael Ciani’s style of play is very much Anglo-Saxon and the former Lorient man will do well at Celtic.
