Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120: I'll be fit for Ashes
The Australian side may have selected 17 members for the first Test match in the Ashes against England at Brisbane, but the selectors will hope that Michael Clarke finds himself fit before the start of
the game. Clarke has been suffering from a recurring back injury.
However, Clarke sounded confident that he would go on to play in the Ashes despite the injury issue. He said: "I've had very similar issues my whole career since making my debut for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 as an
18-year-old kid so it's certainly no different for me."
Clarke, who went on to score a century for his state side New South Wales against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Victoria-c859, which caused his spasms to return, made a match-saving 39 in the second innings. However, the back injury meant
that he had to bat at the number eight position for the side.
Clarke confirmed that it was because of the 244-ball innings that his back injury had flared up. "My back was a little bit stiff after batting for such a long period the other day but I'm very confident I'll
be right for the first test match," said Clarke.
Clarke confirmed that he just needed some rest before the start of the Ashes Test match to get back into the groove. He also said, "I think a bit of work with my physio and a bit of rest will do me the world
of good ... and I'm confident I'll be on a plane to Brisbane come Sunday."
In case Clarke is not able to recover from his back injury, the 17-member squad will have likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 and Callum Ferguson – both new-comers – to replace him. Clarke has played in 64 Test matches
and scored 4549 runs at an average of 48.91. His form in the shorter format of the game hasn’t been at the best and in the last 10 Test match innings, he has made 265 runs at an average of 26.5.
