Michael Clarke: Usman Khawaja unfortunate to sit out – News Update
Australia’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 on Friday,
September 16, 2011.
Khawaja was a part of the playing-eleven for the first two Tests, but had to make way for veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746.
Although the Pakistani born batsman has not been able to make a big score in his outings in the longest version of the game until now, he certainly has impressed one and all with his sound technique and cool temperament.
According to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, “(It’s) hard for Uzzie (Khawaja) because, without going and making a big score individually, he’s shown he can bat anywhere in the order. The way he’s played spin at the start of his innings has been really positive so he’s shown the
selectors going forward that he can play anywhere in the top six.”
The Aussie captain further added, “It’s obviously a tough selection but we thought with Shaun (Marsh) making 141 on debut, it was really hard to leave him out.”
With a stunning performance from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 or Khawaja. However, after a lot of thinking, the latter was omitted from the playing-eleven for the final game of the
series.
This will not be disappointing for Khawaja at all, as he has a long way to go in his career. He is only 24 years of age and will be eying another opportunity to cement his place in the team.
His ability to bat any where in the top-six makes him a very useful cricketer. He might get a chance to open the innings for his team in the future, as Hughes is currently struggling to perform at the top of the order.
Apart from that, all-rounder http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 has also been unable to make big runs at the top of the order, which might drop him down the order in the longest version of the game and open a window of opportunity for any youngster.
