Michael Clarke devastated with his side’s batting performance at the Lord’s – Cricket News
Australia’s captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 but the middle-order batsman is happy with the showing of his bowlers.
Having lost the opening Test of the series at Trent Bridge by just 14 runs, there was a lot of hope among the Australian fans. However, the Baggy Greens failed to live up to the expectations miserably in the second encounter at
the Lord’s.
Thanks to a brilliant five-wicket haul by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RJ-Harris-c2330, the Kangaroos dismissed the home team for 361 runs in their first innings. However, in reply, Australia’s batting line-up fell like a house of cards and were bowled out for
just 128 runs in their first innings. As a result, they never recovered in the match and lost by a huge margin of 347 runs.
While expressing his views after the match, Clarke admitted that the loss is hurting him a lot and said that his batsmen should have performed better in the first innings, when the pitch was quite easy to bat on.
"It's obviously been extremely tough and you probably take it more personally when you're captain of the team as well," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 said. "Our performance with the bat in the first innings was unacceptable. The wicket was very good
for batting, we had a great opportunity and we let ourselves down.”
Clarke and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 scored valiant half-centuries in the second innings but both of them failed to convert their starts into a three-figure score.
The Aussie captain is satisfied with the performance of his bowlers and feels that the problem lies with the batting line-up.
He added, “At the moment we are not performing as well as I would like. We are letting everyone down at the moment with the way we are batting. Our bowlers are fighting hard, we are making them bowl every single day because we
are not putting enough runs on the board."
The third Test of the series is going to start on August 1, 2013, at Old Trafford, with the home team keen to secure an unassailable lead of 3-0 in the battle.
