The Australian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978, on Sunday expressed disappointment over fast bowler Patrick Cummins’ untimely side-strain injury, which ruled the teenager out of their remaining tour of England.
"It's a big loss, not only for the team, but for him as well. He was looking forward to spending some time in England and getting some cricket under his belt, so it's frustrating,” said Clarke while speaking to media reporters after a six-wicket loss to England on Sunday, which left the mighty Aussies 2-0 down in the five-match ODI series.
“He's obviously very disappointed. I don't know how severe it is, but obviously he's going home,” he added further.
Pat Cummins, the 19-year-old Sydney-born fast bowler, had sustained the abdominal strain during the 15-run defeat to England in the series opener, on Friday. Though he managed to complete his quota of 10 overs, claiming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026’s prized wicket, scans after the match revealed a medium grade side strain. This was revealed by the Cricket Australia on Sunday morning, ahead of the second one-dayer against the Poms.
"Pat sustained an abdominal muscle strain on his left side during the first ODI at Lord's," John Orchard, Australian team doctor said in a statement.
“This will keep him out of the remainder of the England tour. His return to cricket will be decided in due course, based on follow-up examinations in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746,” the statement read further.
The mighty Aussies had hoped the ongoing series would serve as a preparatory camp for several of their young bowlers ahead of next year’s Ashes series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013. However, Cummins will be disappointed to miss out on the opportunity.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823 fast bowler is set to fly home on Monday morning for a detailed examination and rehabilitation programme.
This is Cummins’ second injury since he burst on the international arena in October last year. He sustained a foot injury during his debut Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, at Belfast. Friday’s match at Lord’s was only his second international appearance.
