Michael Clarke looking to emulate Ricky Ponting
The new Australian captain, Michael Clarke, hoped that he would follow former skipper Ricky Ponting’s footsteps in leading http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s cricket team.
Clarke has filled in 24 matches for Ricky Ponting, when he was captain, but he will lead the side officially as a captain for the first time against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 on April 9, 2011, in Dhaka.
However, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 has been appointed as the new Vice captain for the team.
Clarke has said that even though Ponting has taken his retirement from captaincy, he will always follow him and would consider him as a role model and will take his advice in leading the team.
He also praised Ponting for his exceptional leadership and management, which will always teach him lessons for his new job. Ponting’s knowledge and sense for cricket will always play an important role for the Australian cricket team, he added.
Clarke stated, “"I've certainly said openly to Ricky that his experience and knowledge of the game, everybody in the team will continue to need and me definitely as an inexperienced captain. But his knowledge is going to be crucial to the team going forward
and that certainly won't change”.
The new skipper also said that he shares a very friendly bond with Ponting be it on-fields or off-field, and he would always try to maintain that friendship.
While referring to Ponting’s leadership and strategies for the team, Clarke added that he will also make sure that the top order batsmen should play first in the upcoming Bangladesh series, as the top order has more chances to make big scores.
Australia have only lost once in their history to Bangladesh in 2005 in England. However, Clarke said that the Dhaka’s wicket would assist spinners, which would come in handy for Bangladesh.
The Aussie squad performing in the Bangladesh series includes, Michael http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382,  and Xavier Doherty.
The Bangladesh side comprises of Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rubel-Hossain-c2378.
