Australian skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iftikhar-Ali-Khan-Pataudi-Nawab-of-c64075 Cummins' performance since his return to competitive cricket after an injury layoff of more than seven months.
"He bowled beautifully in the practice game against Essex this week," said Clarke while speaking to media reporters on the eve of the opening One Day International of the five-match series against England, commencing at Lord’s on Friday.
"Everyone knows he's got the talent. Now we just have to manage his workload, get him out on the park when we can and turn that talent into performance," the visiting skipper added further.
Cummins, the 19-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 in October-November last year, sustained a bone stress injury to his foot during the same itinerary and stayed out of action for almost half-a-year.
Last week’s washed out One Day International against lowly-ranked http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751, at Belfast, was his first international match since recovering from the foot injury, where he bowled just 3 overs and claimed Paul Stirling’s wicket as well before rain halted match
proceedings.
The teenage pace sensation then returned with impressive figures of 3 for 26 in Australia’s second tour game against Essex on Monday, to help the visitors seal a comprehensive 179-run win over the County side.
Like many other players on Australia’s roster, this is Cummins’ first experience of playing in England, and Clarke admitted that it would take the rookie pacer some time to get acclimatised to English conditions.
"Like a lot of the guys who haven't experienced UK conditions it's going to be a little different for him,” said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120, the 31-year-old state teammate of Cummins, adding, “It's going to take some time to adjust and see what conditions are like, but so far,
so good.”
Clarke, who has led the Aussies quite convincingly since taking over from Ponting in April last year, also expressed satisfaction over his team’s performance in the practice matches against county sides, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Essex-c783, and hoped to take the winning
momentum into the five-match ODI series against traditional rivals, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
However, the visiting skipper also urged his side to be at its absolute best against Alastair Cook-led England, who have won their last six home series.
