Michael Clarke says farewell to Twenty20 cricket
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s Twenty20 captain, Michael Clarke has decided to step-down from the captaincy role in the shortest version of the game, and concentrate on Test and one-day international (ODI) cricket.
The decision came after the Australian team lost the final Test of the Ashes by an innings and 83 runs, to eventually lose the series 3-1 to England. Clarke was the stand-in captain for the injured Ricky Ponting in the last Test match of the series.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 was named the captain of the Australian Twenty20 side after Ponting stepped down from the role. He led his team in 18 matches, and the side won 12 matches during his reign.
The highlight of his time as the Twenty20 captain was leading his team to the final of the Twenty20 World Cup in 2010. Australia lost the final to England by seven wickets. Clarke’s form also dipped after being named the captain for the shortest format of
the game, and that may have forced him to step-down from the job.
The new Twenty20 captain of the team will be the explosive batsman Cameron White. His deputy will be young wicket-keeper Tim Paine, who was also tipped as the future captain of Australia by the legendary Steve Waugh.
The Australian Chairman of Selectors, Andrew Hilditch said that, “Cameron White has been named as captain of the Twenty20 team and Tim Paine vice-captain. We are confident that they will provide outstanding leadership for what is a very exciting Twenty20
team.”
Australia will play two Twenty20 internationals against England and there have been a few new names added to the squad. The pace duo of Brett Lee and Shaun Tait will also feature in the Twenty20 games.
Hilditch stated, “James Pattinson is one of a crop of young fast bowlers with great potential and he impressed with his stint with the Australian side in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750. We're sure he's ready for the challenge of international cricket. The squad also sees the return
of Brett Lee and Shaun Tait. Both at their best are explosive bowlers and should add greatly to the team.”
Australia will look forward to winning the Twenty20 and ODI series against England to give their fans some joy after a miserable Ashes series.
