Australian skipper Michael Clarke is happy with his team’s performance in the three matches One Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh.
Clarke, leading his country for the first time in a full series, said the squad put up an outstanding performance in difficult conditions, he added that the team played on wickets they were not used to but convincing wins in all three
matches, nonetheless, had given him a lot of heart.
In the final game of the series the tourists were pushed a tad as the hosts made a spirited effort in chasing down the mammoth 362-run target. Bangladesh got off to a flying start and led by their left handed batsman Imrul Kayes gave
the Aussies a real run for their money in the beginning of their innings.
"I would've liked a couple more early wickets, it would've made life a lot easier, but credit to the Bangladesh top order, I thought they batted really well and took it to us," Clarke said. "We had to hang in there and fight hard
to get over the line and get a couple of wickets through that middle period which brought momentum back our way."
He added that the bowlers did a decent job in difficult conditions as the wicket was the best one for batting in the series. Young fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Pattinson-c1653 was highly impressive going for only 39 runs in his seven overs which considering
the situation was a real good effort. He also praised the bowling of leg spinner Steve Smith.
"I think on wickets like that you have to bowl in partnerships, you have to work out who the batsman is you're trying to attack and which batsman, if someone's going well, you're trying to defend," he said. "It's about keeping the
bloke who's going well off strike and I thought young James and Smithy did that really well.
Clarke led from the front as a captain scoring a century in the first match of the series.
He however relaxed during the third game and was guilty of dropping a catch. The Australian captain acknowledged that a straightforward dropped catch would be really costly against oppositions like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
The series was made memorable by Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 who followed up his record breaking effort in the second ODI with another punishing innings in the third game. At Mirpur he had bludgeoned as many as 15 sixes in an undefeated innings of 185.
The tally of sixes was a world record eclipsing the previous best of 12 sixes in an innings achieved by Xavier http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748.
