The 31-year-old has recently called it a day from the shorter formats of the game and will now represent England only in Test cricket. Pietersen wanted to continue playing T20 Internationals but according to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), a player
has to play 50-overs sport as well as T20s or none.

“I’m surprised that he retired from the shorter form of the game because of how good he is, and he’s only 31. It was a surprise when I heard he’d retired from the shorter form of the game. He’s such a good player and he’s had a lot of success. He’s a match
winner, but England has a lot of good players in their team and they enjoy the shorter form of the game,” he expressed.

Clarke knows that Hussey is one of the best batsmen of the globe but he is of the opinion that the left-hander’s absence will give chances to the new players to prove their worth.
