Michael Cuddyer's comeback lifts Minnesota Twins past Baltimore Orioles 5-2 – MLB Spring Season
Michael Cuddyer’s return to action helped the Minnesota Twins defeat the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 in their Grapefruit League encounter on Wednesday, March 23 at Hammond Stadium in Florida.
Cuddyer had a decent comeback performance as he had a walk and went 1-for-2. "I feel good enough to go out there and play," Cuddyer said. "It hurts when I run the bases. But it's manageable now. I'm not going to be hindered. Not at all."
The return of Cuddyer lifted the Minnesota Twins as they currently have a number of players that are injured and missing games. The Twins realise the importance of the match ups during the spring session as a time to get the line-ups correct. The session
also allows for players to get some much needed match time against quality opposition before the grueling regular season starts.
After winning the game, Cuddyer expressed his feelings and said, “I got to keep testing it out. It feels really good to be out there and feels pretty good to get some good swings.”
All the players are competing for a spot on the final roster for a chance to be part of the team in the regular season. Not only are the players battling out with their opposing team, but in essence they are also trying to outshine their team-mates for possible
selection on to the roster.
Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire was impressed with the performance of the team as they managed to restrict the Orioles’ offence and get some much need runs on the board for a decisive victory. Each win counts and Gardenhire understands the significance of
the spring session to iron out the kinks with the team before they play in the regular season.
It will be interesting to see if the Twins select Cuddyer for a permanent place in the final roster for the regular season. It looks more than likely as the Twins have been impressed by his performance and his comeback efforts have been a delight to watch.
The impact he will have on the team is yet to be seen as the regular season is right around the corner.
