Michael Cuddyer’s return to Twins a probable scenario
Michael Cuddyer might be in the free agency but the outfielder has his heart out for the Minnesota Twins. The right fielder has been with the club for the last 11 years and there is little chance he might know which team would be best for him to make the
switch to. As General Manager of the Twins, Terry Ryan, expressed his wish to see the player back at the club on Thursday, November 10, there was a clear bond between the two entities in focus to be explored.
Cuddyer averaged .272 with the bat from 1,139 games and that makes him a hot commodity in the market. With the Philadelphia Phillies giving him a tour of the East Coast, it looks premature to say the player is heading back to his old club but there is strong
reason behind the belief.
When he was queried on what would factor in his decision in the offseason period for moving out of free agency, he gave the Twins a slight advantage. He would consider the time spent with the club.
"I think so, yeah," Cuddyer said on the last day of the season. "It's very rare for that to happen. To have a 'legacy,' in this organization is important. So it's something that will definitely go into the thought process."
The Twins may have had their worst season in the American League Central Division in 2011. The club was inflicted with 99 defeats and that would chase away many players from the squad. However Ryan has stated that the team’s policy is to aim high for a division
win. Interestingly, Cuddyer does not seem concerned by that. He believes there should be no burden of convincing placed on the management.
"I don't think it's fair ... to throw it all on them, and tell them they need to do, 'This, this and this in order for me to consider coming back,'" Cuddyer said. "If I'm going to come back, then I'm one of those pieces. So I don't think it's fair to throw
that on the organization."
Though Cuddyer’s sympathies lie with the Twins, there is little reason to believe he has already made up his mind on where he wants to go. At the moment, it is premature to judge where he will land. However the Twins lie on top of the preferential list,
nevertheless.
