Michael Dawson confident Tottenham Hotspur can secure top four spot in Premier League
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Dawson-c25288, the 27-year-old Tottenham Hotspur defender, revealed he was certain his side were confident of a top four finish in the English Premier League table in the upcoming season. The Spurs finished fifth last season and missed out on the qualification
for the UEFA Champions League and are instead preparing to take on Hearts in the UEFA Europa League play-offs.
However, Dawson said his side were desperate for Champions League football after doing unexpectedly well in the European competition last season. The London side went on to defeat the likes of Serie A giants AC Milan and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan to make it to the quarter-finals
against Real Madrid. However, they failed to make it past Jose Mourinho’s Madrid as they watched their European dream die with the 5-0 loss.
Despite the failure to qualify for the European competition in the upcoming season, Dawson insisted the Spurs were still eager for the Champions League football. It was this hunger he felt would lead them to a top four finish against the likes of Manchester
United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur. The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international believed in the quality of the player at White Hart Lane and was certain they would earn their spot in Europe.
Dawson said in an interview:
“We're aiming to be in the top four, we've been in it, and the lads are hungry to be in it again.
Of course you're disappointed not to be in the Champions League.
You want to be playing against the best players but you've got to earn the right to be back there.”
Tottenham Hotspur did brilliantly in the Premier League, taking advantage of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786’s poor form and managing to maintain a place in top four. Unfortunately, they suffered a slump towards the end of the season just as the Blues had recovered from their poor
form and instead of a top four finish, ended up at fifth place.
Dawson, who arrived at White Hart Lane in 2005 from Nottingham Forest, was confident Spurs could secure good results against the top four sides, having managed to do so last season. Tottenham Hotspur managed a 3-2 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, despite being 2-0 down
to the Gunners. Their comeback against Arsenal and the 2-0 win over http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 gave Dawson hope that they could go on to do the same this season.
The central defender continued:
“We're going to these places where maybe five or six years ago we weren't getting wins, so we're moving forward.
We know it's going to be tough, but we've got top players and we'll be giving it our all this year.”
