Tottenham Hotspur skipper, Michael Dawson, has claimed that the Spurs have a tough start to their English Premier League campaign when compared to the other teams in the English division and has urged his team to begin the season strongly.
The Barclays Premier League fixtures for the upcoming 2011/12 season were released earlier this week and Tottenham Hotspur were handed one the toughest starting fixtures. The north London club will kick-off their campaign with a home fixture against Everton,
who finished seventh in the league standings last season. Following the game against Everton, the Spurs will play their first away match of the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Their third and last Premier League match of August would be against Manchester City, who finished third in the recently concluded 2011/12 season.
Dawson believes that Tottenham should start their next campaign positively and said, “They are good team, everyone knows that and they will look to get off to a better start this time around.”
Harry Redknapp’s men impressed immensely in their maiden UEFA Champions League campaign, finishing atop the group containing the likes of then European Champions, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan, and Werder Bremen. The Spurs overcame AC Milan to reach the quarter-finals, but
their European dream came to a halt against Jose Mourinho’s http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid.
The season took a disappointing turn towards the end as the Spurs failed to qualify for the 2011/12 edition of the UEFA Champions League, owing all to a fifth placed finish.
Dawson has claimed that Barclays Premier League is the most competitive league and the Spurs should take every league match seriously if they want to qualify for next year’s UEFA Champions League.
“Every game in the Premier League is tough. There aren’t many games where you look at it and it’s three points guaranteed. There are games where you’ll think ‘hopefully we’ll get three points there’ but there is never a guarantee. Every game is a challenge,”
added Dawson.
Harry Redknapp is also determined to get the north London club back into the UEFA Champions League.
