Michael Douglas, Steve Waugh enthralled by Alfred Dunhill Pro-Am experience: Second round underway
Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is probably experiencing one of the finest events ever held in the course of its long history. Balmy autumn afternoons are a rare sight at this time of the year in Scotland, coupled with the high-profile celebrities who
come down to get a taste of the delectable Links golf.
The Pro-Am event has boosted some of the big wigs of showbiz, who have now become a regular feature of the event. Academy Award winner, Michael Douglas, as well as the ‘Songs and Lyrics’ lead cast, Hugh Grant, showed up for a second consecutive year to be
part of the field alongside professional players.
Also on the field was former Australian cricket Captain, Steve Waugh, along with his spin wizard, Shane Warne, who has teamed up with other players to grab a taste of the addictive sport.
Waugh, while talking to reporters said, “I think playing the Road Hole, to me, is like playing at Lord’s in cricket. It’s got that tradition and mystique and something special about it and when you play it, and when you are on that tee and you’re nervous,
and you’re looking forward to playing the hole, that’s the closest I’ll ever come to playing international cricket again.”
The second round is underway where defending champion, Martin Kaymer, seems to have taken up the offensive to retain the title he won last year. Kaymer, who settled for a joint third on the first day, pulled in consecutive birdies on the front nine today.
He made the turn to card one more on the 11th and is now five-under for the moment. Kaymer is playing at Carnoustie today.
Northern Ireland’s Michael Hoey has done well so far to maintain his lead at the start of the second day, playing Kingsbarns. Starting off from back nine, he pulled in four birdies before making the turn and dropped one shot at par-three, 2nd.
He is currently sharing the lead with overnight co-leader, Louis Oosthuizen, who is not ready to let go of the early gains of the previous night.
The South African, who is in search for a breakthrough, opened with four birdies on the front nine and has just tee-ed off for his back nine. Oosthuizen and Hoey are both sharing the lead for the moment with their aggregate scores of 10-under.
