Chelsea and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ghana-c2905 midfielder Michael Essien rejected recent rumours linking him to a move away from Stamford Bridge.
The 28-year-old insisted he intended to honour his contract with the Blues, successfully ruling out a move to Serie A giants AC Milan.
Milan have been eyeing the Chelsea midfielder since last summer, and recently attempted to lure the Ghanaian away from the London club.
However, Essien revealed he was contracted to Chelsea and was not even considering making a move away anytime soon.
Essien said while speaking to reporters:
“I do not care about the rumours, I am calm.
Nobody from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 has told me anything and I have a contract with them.”
The Blues holding midfielder went on to say that no official had been made, which is why he was certain his future lay with Chelsea.
With the summer transfer window under progress and many Chelsea stars expected to be offloaded, Essien said he believed they should be retained.
With most of them having played at Chelsea for more than five seasons together, Essien revealed they had perfect understanding, which he believed made them a better team.
The likes of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 are all above 30 years old and have been linked with a move away.
All the above mentioned players have played an important part in the Blues recent success and dominance domestically.
Their departure will undoubtedly make way for new signings, but it will also mean the end of one of the best existing squads in the Premier League.
The Ghana international continued:
“We have known each other a long time and we know what the other players are thinking - that's a great thing for us and it shows on the pitch.
Things come natural to us, we don't have to think about it. When one of us has the ball
he knows exactly what his team-mates are going to be doing.
We defend together, we attack together - that's teamwork. It's good for us that we have kept the same players because we're used to each other now.”
While Essien has confirmed his future to Chelsea, it is not certain if the rest of the players will be staying at the London club.
So far there have been no rumours or offers for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 midfielder Frank Lampard, which makes it safe to rule out the 33-year-old from a move away.
The same cannot be said about Didier Drogba, Nicolas Anelka and Florent Malouda. It seems the trio could be leaving Stamford Bridge, willingly and unwillingly.
Drogba was reportedly offered a new contract but the Ivory Coast international has not yet accepted and there have been rumours linking him to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and La Liga giants http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid.
Malouda and Anelka have both expressed a desire to remain at Chelsea, but they are expected to be offloaded to make room for the new arrivals.
The changes that seem to be underway at the Bridge will only be finalized when the Blues hire a new manager.
