http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 to remain with Chelsea, agent confirms
Michael Essien’s representative claimed that the recent reports claiming that the 28-year-old midfielder was heading towards a Stamford Bridge exit were false.
He insisted that the Ghanaian international was committed to the London side and would remain with them until the end of his contract.
With the appointment of former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 boss Andre Villas Boas as manager of the club, there were rumours that Essien would be heading towards an exit in the summer transfer window.
With a host of other Chelsea players, like http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Salomon-Kalou-c32266, Essien was also thought to be leaving.
He was linked with the likes of London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, Serie A giants AC Milan and former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Real-c30728 Madrid.
The reason why Essien was linked to a move to White Hart Lane was mostly because of the Blues chase for Croatian midfielder http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Luka-Modric-c22857.
It was believed that Chelsea would offer to trade Essien along with a small fee in order to convince Spurs boss Harry Redknapp to part ways with his prized midfielder.
However, according to the player’s agent, there was no possibility that the holding midfielder would be leaving Chelsea in the summer.
Essien’s agent said while speaking to reporters:
“There's absolutely no chance of Essien leaving http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786.
It is not true that the club's new coach Villas-Boas wants to release Michael.
In fact, the new coach knows Essien very well having worked at the club before and he knows what Michael can do for the club.”
He maintained that his client still had an important place in the squad, which Villas-Boas had no intention of changing any time soon.
Essien’s representative also confirmed the player himself had no desire to leave the London club, despite various links to other European sides.
He continued:
“http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-c25261 is also focused on staying at the club because he has a very good relationship with the team's supporters, the new manager and the club owner
He is not leaving.”
