Michael Floyd’s arrival: Arizona Cardinals’ Andre Roberts and Early Doucet welcome competition
Arizona Cardinals wide receivers, Andre Roberts and Early Doucet, have welcomed the arrival of another receiver, Michael Floyd, to the team.
Floyd, who was selected in first round of the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft as 13th overall pick by the Cards, has joined the list of receivers who would be competing for the starting role and more playing time on the field next season.
However, the two receivers who were already a part of the team do not see Floyd as a threat. Instead, they have welcomed his arrival and embraced the challenge of competing against each other.
While giving an interview to XTRA 910, Roberts acknowledged that he had an idea that the team would select a receiver in the draft and that the new receiver will help strengthen the offence.
He said:
“I had a feeling there was a chance we would take him so I had already thought about what I might want to say. It is what it is. We got a good player (in Floyd) and I think he will help us.”
Roberts has been playing with the Cards since 2010. He is still in his rookie contract and was fortunate to earn the starting role last year.
On the other hand, Doucet, who has been playing for the team since 2008, has not been able to become the regular starter.
However, he, too, does not feel that Floyd’s arrival is going to affect him in any negative way. He thinks that all players should focus on securing victories for the team rather than worrying about their place on the roster.
He said in a separate radio interview:
“This isn’t new to me. I’ve seen it all, been through it all. Again, I think it’s a good pick for us. It gives us another big body on the outside like Fitz [Larry Fitzgerald], and we will have more opportunities if they pay attention to those big bodies.
It’s the business. I don’t have any bad blood toward the guy. I’m excited.”
In the last season, Cardinals struggled slightly on their offence and at the end were not able to qualify for the playoffs. They are hoping to overcome their flaws and reach the postseason in the 2012 season.
