Germany’s Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels made their presence felt to the world by winning the Mixed Doubles title at the Canada Open Grand Prix 2011, in Richmond, on Sunday, July 24. The duo wants to continue their impressive winning form at the upcoming
2011 World Championships, which are set to begin from August 8, in England.
The German couple played tremendous badminton in the final of the Canada Open and thrashed Cheng Wen Hsing and Chen Hung Ling of Chinese Taipei in straight games without showing any respect to their opponents in the court. The Germans played flawless and
impressive badminton in the title battle and took home the Mixed Doubles crown.
Fuchs and Michels contested to their full potential in all matches of the Canada Open, proving that they have got a certain level of skill and maturity, which makes them ready to shake top shuttlers of the world in the category of Mixed Doubles. The duo
crushed their opponents in two sets with the score of 21-10 and 23-21.
The upcoming task for the German couple is to continue their remarkable form in the World Championships, which is the second most prestigious event after the Olympic Games in the world of badminton. The mega event is set to start from August 8, at the Wembley
Arena in London, England, which will also serve as the venue for the 2012 London Olympics.
After winning the Mixed Doubles title at the Canada Open, Fuchs said, “Winning a title is important for the ranking points and nobody likes to lose in the finals but it’s especially good to win against Chen and Cheng because they play differently than the
Europeans and that is good preparation for the upcoming world championships.”
Now, Fuchs and Michels are focusing on their next target, which is the World Championships, as the duo has the ability to make upsets against top seeds from China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Korea and England. They are determined to put up good show by playing
top-class badminton against higher ranked couples in the world meet.
