Michael Hills considers ‘it’s over’
Having served the sport for almost four decades and ridden more than 2, 000 winners, the legendary British rider, Michael Hills, thinks that he must call it a day after the end of the ongoing turf season.
This news has spurred a wave of melancholy in the horseracing circles where numerous people pose to be the die-hard fans of the star jockey who has been making glorious marks since 1979.
The 49-year-old veteran rider has accomplished a number of iconic feats in his long career. In fact, a big part of the sport history is associated with him.
Despite being at the peak of form, Michael Hills want to hang his boots, but he feels that the aroma of the game can never enfranchise his mind.
While speaking to the local media bout his retirement, Hills said, “There's nothing quite like riding winners, especially big winners. It's just you and the horse, and the thrill and the buzz you get from that is something special, and it always will be.
But nothing lasts forever and every jockey knows when it is time to move on. For me, that time has now come."
The brilliant and skilled rider started his career with Sky Thief. Throughout his career, he has driven top-class runners. A number of the renowned horses have got Hills seated on their backs.
Apart from the home tracks, the gifted jockey has proved his class in Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden, UAE and Hong Kong.
Regardless of surfaces and situations, Hills always manages to exploit the maximum potential of the runner he rides. This is the reason he has a long list of triumphs to his name.
During the high-class Royal Ascot event of June 2012, Hills achieved some classy feats. As a whole, he has earned almost 28 wins since the dawn of the calendar years.
It is pretty good decision by the world-class rider to retire at the moment when he is winning frequently.
The sport lovers will never be able to rub the pleasant memories of the stylish rider out of their minds. Michael Hills’ name will keep adorning the history books forever.
