Michael Holt disappointed after losing to Luca Brecel in qualifiers: 2012 World Snooker Championship
Qualifiers of the upcoming 2012 World Snooker Championship finished successfully at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield featuring 16 potters who have been drawn against the World Top 16 cuemen from around the world.
Meanwhile, England’s Michael Holt is quite disappointed because he was unable to win a place at the Crucible Theatre and crashed out of the qualifiers at the hands of Luca Brecel.
A young Belgian cueist, Luca Brecel has also made his way into the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship after beating Michael Holt in his penultimate qualifying match at the academy. He faced another English potter, Mark King in the final
qualifying match and played brilliantly against him to win the game by a close score line of 10-9 and booked his place in the Last 32 line up.
Holt was outstanding at the baize against the kid and was at the brink to beat him but the youngster bounced back brilliantly and unsettled him by dragging the game into a decisive frame. The Belgian youngster swept the table in no time and ousted his experienced
opponent. Losing to a mere amateur was indeed a disappointing situation for the Englishman and he still could not swallow it.
While speaking to the media, Holt said, “It was a bad way to end a good season. I'm disappointed that I won't be at the Crucible because I didn't do a lot wrong in the last frame. It stings a bit and I won't be going along to watch the final now.”
He added, “I think he was destined to get through, to be honest. Good luck to him, he seems a nice lad. He did OK but if we played today I'm confident I would beat him. He is a good potter but to say he is a "wonder kid" is not fair on him.”
The 17-year-old Brecel has now set up Scotland’s Stephen Maguire clash in the opening round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship. The player will break the record of the youngest Crucible entry after the former seven-time World Snooker Champion from Scotland,
Stephen Hendry.
