Australia is one side which has produced some of the most prolific batsmen in cricket. From Don Bradman to Allan Border, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 has always managed to produce some of the best talents in cricket. In the present age they have
some of the best batsmen playing today. Ricky Ponting is perhaps one of the best Captains of all time, and has a prolific record as a Test batsman. He has played a lot of memorable knocks for Australia and is treated as one of the best. But the player who
has the tendency to play crucial knocks for Australia is Michael Hussey. Michael Hussey is one player which a side cannot afford to drop in their team. His ability to single handedly save the match has always been admired and it has also given him the name
of Mr. Cricket. The knock of 195, which he played in the first Ashes Test truly justifies this moniker. For Australia, if they want to have some serious impact on the Ashes outcome then Michael Hussey is one batsman who will have to play an important role
for them. The way he batted in the first innings reflects his ability to play under pressure, and this is one attribute which is admired a lot. The whole Australian batting was under pressure on the first day of the Brisbane test, and it was Hussey who came
to their rescue. Australia was under a lot of pressure going into the first Ashes Test, and needed players like Hussey to absorb that pressure. The best thing about his innings in the Brisbane Test was the fact that he wasn’t much taken by the tense situation
and played naturally in the Test match.
Hussey’s innings at the Gabba was not the only innings which he has managed to play well in recent times. Throughout his career he has played some memorable match saving innings for his side, and has been able to get Australia
out of trouble on a number of occasions. Who can forget his performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in Sydney earlier this year in which he single handedly managed to save the Test match for the Aussies. Australia had only managed a lead of around 80 in their second
innings, and had also lost 8 important wickets. It was Hussey’s match saving innings of 134*, which helped them to give a respectable target to Pakistan. The feature of that knock was the fact that he did not allow the bowlers to dictate terms to him, and
at one time, the bowlers had to be a bit defensive against him. Because of his heroics, Australia won that Test match and eventually the series.
His innings of 195 in the Brisbane Test was replete with the same characteristics. Australia were 5 down for 143 runs, and things were not looking good for them. Hope again came from Hussey, as he provided stability to the Aussie
innings and did not play irrationally or under pressure. He scored runs whenever he got the opportunity and did not allow any bowler to build pressure on him. It is necessary that bowlers are not allowed to build pressure on the batsmen, as it allows them
to think and experiment against the batsmen. At the start, he was the main contributor of runs in the partnership of 307 with Brad Haddin. Later when their partnership grew, Haddin also contributed a lot of runs. The presence which he showed in the middle
was applaudable, as the Aussies were in urgent need for some batsmen to carry them to safety. He played his natural game and was quite successful in rotating the strike.
The message which he gave to the English bowlers was a threatening one, as he was able to play with so much confidence. He played the balls on merit and did not go for every ball. This is the attribute that has been noticed throughout
Hussey’s career, as he has been able to provide strength to the Aussie middle order. Again in the Brisbane Test he was able to do exactly that. Another factor that was noticeable in his innings of 195 was his ability to use his feet against the spinner, Graeme
Swann. He used his feet against Swann exceptionally well, and played him all round the wicket. He picked a lot of singles and also attacked the English bowlers in between the overs.  He was also successful in playing his favorite drives and pull shots of the
bowlers, and struck 26 boundaries and one six in total. Michael Hussey’s ability to play under pressure will play a crucial factor for Australia for the rest of the Ashes series. His batting is certainly a great role model for the other Aussie batsmen to bat
under tight and tense situations.
