Mr. Cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942, after having announced his decision to retire, said that he would have liked starting cricket earlier, in order to experience what youngsters go through.
“I would've loved to get an opportunity earlier, there's no question about that. I would've maybe liked to go through what young players go through at international level where you come in, you're so excited to be there, probably go through some hard times
and then come out the other side a batter player,” said Hussey.
The Australian middle-order batsman announced his retirement from Test Cricket following the final match of the series against Sri Lanka, in Sydney, ahead of his complete exit from international cricket at the end of this Australian summer.
The 37-year-old has a total of 6183 runs in the Test arena so far, with an average of 51.52. The left-handed batsman’s decision to retire at this point was a surprise for many, and will definitely be a setback for the Aussies, who recently lost veteran Ricky
Ponting to retirement.
Making his debut at the age of 30, Hussey believes entering international cricket at a mature age might be one of the reasons behind his success.
“In a lot of ways it probably did help me to be able to perform consistently at international level, to have so much first-class cricket behind me. To learn about the game and learn about batting and learn about myself as a person,” added the star middle-order-batsman.
Hussey’s exit from No.6 will leave a gaping hole in the Australian middle-order. Following the retirement of veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377, the Aussie selectors are still contemplating over a suitable replacement.

Hussey, going in to the 3rd Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in Sydney on January 3, will look perform well and leave on a high note.
