Michael Hussey all set to shine at the ICC World Cup 2011
Australian batsman Michael Hussey is all set to awe the cricketing world with his phenomenal batting in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011. Hussey, who reached http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 only a couple of days ago, is confident to justify his recall by helping his team retain their
world title.
Hussey has been called up to play for the Australian team as a replacement for left-arm pacer Doug Bollinger, who was sent back home after picking up an ankle injury in the subcontinent.
Hussey told reporters, “I thought, would they bring a fast bowler for Bollinger? Or maybe another spinner, a left-hand spinner, to cover that area. And I also thought they might bring in a left-hand batsman in the middle-order. I was hoping it would be third
option."
Asked if he had contacted Bollinger, Hussey replied that he had indeed spoken with the injured pacer, who according to Hussey was bitterly disappointed after being ruled out of the World Cup.
Hussey insisted that he had not been assured of a place in the next fixture against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 on Sunday. However, he hoped he would play soon. He said, “There's been no indication from the selectors yet about when I am going to play but I am just going to prepare
myself so that I am ready whenever called upon."
Earlier, Australian captain Ricky Ponting said that he would be surprised if the selectors decided to replace a bowler with a batsman. While Ponting wanted Hussey in the side, but he believed that the selectors would send a pacer or a spinner to reinforce
the bowling strength of the team.
Responding to what his skipper had said earlier, Hussey said that the selectors had also sent left-arm pacer Dirk Nannes as backup. He believed that the selectors had done well in selecting another pacer, just in case someone else got injured.
Hussey was initially dropped from Australia’s World Cup squad after he picked up a hamstring injury in the first One Day International (ODI) of a seven-match series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in January.
The flamboyant batsman immediately opted to undergo surgery in order to regain his fitness and play in the later stages of the World Cup. However, the Australian selectors decided not to take any risks and didn’t consider him. The player was devastated as
he felt that he deserved a chance to prove his match-fitness.
Nevertheless, Hussey’s luck changed the moment Bollinger got injured, and there was every reason to believe that the 35-year old lower middle-order batsman could make a World Cup comeback.
