Michael Hussey doubtful for ICC World Cup 2011
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 suffered a big blow to their World Cup preparations as their star batsman Michael Hussey underwent a surgery after scans revealed that he had a torn hamstring tendon on his left knee.
The scans were taken after the first of the seven-match One Day International series against England which was played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The physiotherapist of the Australian team, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alex-Kountouris-c43123 stated, “Whilst the injury appeared to be minor at the time and soon after the game, scans have since revealed that he has avulsed (torn) one of the hamstring tendons from the attachment point at
inner side of his knee.”
Hussey was named in the 15-member squad for the World Cup which is scheduled to start from February 2011. Australia will feature in their first match of the mega event on 21
February against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Commenting on the recovery from his injury, Alex said, “The recovery time and availability for the World Cup will be dependent on his progress with the rehabilitation programme in the coming weeks.”
Australia have been hit with injuries in the recent past. Players like Brett Lee, Simon Katich and Ricky Ponting have sustained injuries prior to Hussey.
The Kangaroos faced a similar situation with their key player Andrew Symonds in the previous World Cup in 2007. The star all-rounder sustained an injury in his arm and was unfit for the tournament but was kept with the team. He later returned to the team
to help his side win the trophy.
The Australian team has had a poor run in the Test and Twenty20 formats recently but they have maintained the highest level of performance in the 50-over game.
Injured captain of the Australian team, Ricky Ponting is confident that his team will live up to the expectations in the mega event. He said, “We're quite clearly the No.1-ranked one-day team in the world, and I think just little things like the great win
that we had the other night shows that this one-day team is certainly on the right track.”
The reigning champions, Australia, who have won the trophy for a record four times, will be hoping that they go with their full strength in the World Cup and perform as well as they have been doing for the past many years.
