Michael Hussey helped Australia to take a match winning lead in the Perth Test
Michael Hussey played an exclusive knock of 116 to take his team to a competitive position in the important third Ashes test. Australia resumed the day from their overnight score of 119-3 and needed at least 350 runs to post a challenging target for England.
The balance of the Perth test was totally shifted to Australia’s side on the second day, when Mitchell Johnson produced one of the best spells in fast bowling and destroyed the English batting. Australia in response lost a number of important wickets but managed
to post a target of 391 for the English batsmen. Michael Hussey played another important innings for his side to take them into a commanding position in the third test match. The pitch still has a lot to offer for the bowlers and the way Australia has bowled
in the match makes it seem that Australia will come on top at the end.
Australia resumed from their overnight score of 119-3 and things were looking positive for the Aussies. Shane Watson has shown complete class in the series so far and has played a number of important knocks in the series. He has always been able to get a
good start but somehow has failed to convert these starts into big totals. He hit 11 boundaries in his innings of 95, and played all the bowlers with ease. He scored well whenever he got the opportunity, especially off pace bowlers. Watson along with Hussey
managed 113 runs for the fourth wicket, and he was also the main contributor of runs in this partnership. Watson was quite harsh on Steven Finn and struck a number of cover drives and pull shots off his bowling. England got its first success of the day when
they took the prize wicket of Shane Watson. Watson was dismissed at the score of 95, when he was trapped leg before by Tremlett. It has happened before that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 has not been able to convert his score of 90’s into 100.
After the Watson dismissal, a lot was on the shoulders of Michael Hussey and like before he did not disappoint this time as well. Australia were 177-4, and they still needed a good partnership to push their total to a commanding position. It was a wonderful
opportunity for Steven Smith to shine as he was in the presence of prolific batsman, Michael Hussey. Steve Smith had some nervy moments at start of his innings, but he was successful in providing an important partnership to the Aussies at a crucial time. He
gained confidence after sometime and struck some impressive drives. He was dismissed by Tremlett, when he gloved the ball to the leg side and was caught by the keeper. Smith contributed a handy 36 runs and also contributed a 75 run partnership with Michael
Hussey for the fifth wicket.
Michael Hussey is clearly the best Australian batsman in the series so far, and is also the highest scorer in the series. It was again a great batting display by the right hander as he showed no weakness in his batting. It was an all-round performance by
Hussey as he played the bowlers on merit. He was quite cautious in his approach and did not go for length balls on the off stump. He was intelligent enough to realize that the ball moves a lot in Perth and he paced his innings according to it. He placed the
ball beautifully in gaps and did not give any chance to the opposition. Brad Haddin looked confident but was only able to add 7 runs to the Australian total. After Haddin’s dismissal, Australia were 271-6 and needed someone to stay with Michael Hussey till
the end. Michael Hussey, inspite of losing partners at the other end, was batting brilliantly. His footwork was delightful and impressively pulled anything that was short. He struck 15 boundaries in his innings of 116.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 lost the last 4 wickets quite quickly as Johnson (1), Harris (1) and Siddle (8) were not able to provide support to Hussey long enough. Hussey struck some impressive boundaries to take Australia’s total past the 300 mark, before he was caught
at the mid wicket region of the bowling of Tremlett. Hussey batted beautifully for his 116 and helped Australia in posting a target of 391 for England. Tremlett was the best of the English bowlers, as he bowled with a lot of skill and took 5 wickets for his
side.
