Michael Hussey makes comeback to Australian squad in ICC World Cup 2011
Michael Hussey, aka “Mr. Cricket” has been included in Australia's squad for the current International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2011 in place of Doug Bollinger, who has been ruled out from the mega event due to an injury.
Hussey was initially selected for the original 15-man squad but the selectors forced him out as they were scared of his hamstring injury. They want him to undergo proper treatment.
Nevertheless, Hussey has recovered from his hamstring injury and is now ready to give a tough time to his rivals in the ongoing tournament.
Hussey expressed his feelings by saying that he feels excited for his performance in the World Cup. He also added that it was very distressful for him in the beginning to hear that he was forced out from the 15-man squad due to his injury.
He thought that his cricket career was over. But now as he has been called again for the mega event, he is thrilled and dying to play well for his team.
Michael Hussey is 35 years old and is returning to international cricket after an injury, but he stated that he still needs more work to speed up his performance and to display his passion for cricket as he is still left with a lot of cricket.
He said, “I probably still need a little bit more work to get my skills right up to speed, to where they need to be, but it's just great to be out there playing and the hamstring feels great, to be honest”.
Michael Hussey, older brother of David Hussey, injured himself in January in the first One Day International against England. He managed only 30 runs from two innings in Western Australia's 7-wicket win over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 in their Sheffield Shield match recently.
“It was pretty demoralising but I was still very keen to get back and play as quickly as I could for WA (state side http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865)”, said the Aussie batsman.
Hussey is hopeful of finding a place in the playing eleven against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 on Sunday in Bangalore. He appreciated the performances shown by the Aussies in the current tournament.
Mr. Cricket has played a total of 151 ODIs and has scored 4469 runs at an average of 51.96. The Aussie player was a top-order batsman in the 2010-11 Ashes series against England.
