Australian batsman Michael Hussey might make World Cup comeback
Australia’s injury discarded lower middle-order batsman Michael Hussey may play in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 after reports surfaced that Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 (CA) may decide on calling him up as a replacement for Australia’s latest casualty to injury Dough
Bollinger. Bollinger is set to return home after suffering an ankle injury that has ended his World Cup stint.
According to reports coming from Australia, Hussey is in the last stages of his rehabilitation and would be fit enough to play soon. According to an Australian television channel, the left-hand batsman has received a call from CA to stay on standby for a
possible recall.
Talking about his possible return to the pitch, Hussey was quoted as saying, “Initially, I thought that you were in the initial 15 and if you were injured then you were pretty much out for the tournament, you can’t be replaced.” Hussey added, “But I had
a call from Cricket Australia saying that’s not actually the case. If there was another injury, then, because I'm now fit again, I could be considered as the replacement player. You don't wish an injury upon anyone, but I guess there is a glimmer of hope.”
Hussey was initially dropped from the World Cup squad because of a hamstring injury that he sustained while playing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 in the first match of a seven-match One Day International (ODI) series last month in Australia.
The injury ran havoc in the Australian camp because Hussey was part of Australia’s plans for the World Cup which is being played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 this year. Hussey played a vital role in Australia’s only victory in the Ashes series which
the Aussies lost 3-1. This defeat to the Aussies in their own backyard came after 24 years.
A comeback by Hussey will help Australia strengthen their depleted batting line-up which is in dire need for a late order batsman. Australia have won the two matches they played so far in the World Cup. The Aussies triumphed easily against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 and New
Zealand but in both the outings, the batting line-up of the Aussies was not put under test by the opposition. However, there is a growing concern that Australia currently do not have enough depth in their batting and against a strong bowling attack, the Aussies
can face serious problems.
