Michael Hussey on the Edge of losing his place in the Squad
Michael Hussey is facing a dire dilemma at the twilight of his international cricketing career, as the 35-year-old needs to fight hard to keep his place in the Australian national squad, which will be facing England in the Ashes.
A few years ago who could have thought that Hussey would be on the verge of being dropped from the team against England due to lack of form.
The hurricane Hussey has been struggling to find his form for almost over a year. However, due to his previous astounding accomplishments, the selectors were forced to look the other way around when it came to selecting him for
the national squad based on his performance.
The Aussies do not have the urn this year and they want it back from the English. On the other hand, this is perhaps the only time in almost two decades when the English side is more organised and in a position to defend the Ashes.
As the England team seems solid, the Australians look in disarray. Moreover, reports of infighting have been spreading for the past two months within the Aussie ranks; however, they have repeatedly been denied by the Australian
management and players likewise.
The main problem for Australia right now is that the players who have been the backbone of Australia are now aging away, and the new lot has not performed good enough to be put against a very formidable English side.
The Australian players, such as Michael Hussey are themselves in a bit of crisis. There is a prominent fear of Hussey being dropped for the Ashes and even if he is selected to play at the Gabba, he will be under the watchful eye
of the selectors.
The presence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729 and Callum Ferguson in the 17-member squad for the Test at Gabba has most surely put more pressure on the senior struggling players who are desperately trying to maintain their place in the national
team.
The selection of the younger players shows that the Australian selectors are willing to gamble with the outcome of the Ashes by letting the new blood have a feel of what Ashes is all about. This also gives rise to a question if
the struggling senior players will be able to save their careers this summer or not.
Nevertheless, Hussey seems to be calm with the recent selection of younger lads in the seventeen-member squad. When asked if he was a bit concerned about his place in the team, Hussey said, “I don’t think you can really worry about
anyone else. The most important thing is for me to try to concentrate on my preparation. Playing well in this Shield game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Western-Australia-c865) have a win. And then just to prepare as though
I am going to play in the Test match.”
Hussey further said, “If you start clouding your mind worrying about other guys, or if they’re going to get picked, of if you’re not going to get picked, you’re taking your mind off what’s important. For me, the focus is on preparing
to play and preparing to be part of that first Test match and not worrying about anyone else.”
For now, Hussey seems to be in high spirits, but even he knows that if he does not perform soon enough, he is most likely going to be sacked from the team. That will surely put his participation in next year’s cricket World Cup
in doubt.
