Michael Hussey powers Chennai Super Kings to 183 against Royal Challengers
Bangalore – IPL news
Chennai Super Kings have put up a fighting total of 183 for 5 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first innings of the 14th Indian Premier League match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Michael Hussey emerged as Chennai’s hero, scoring a fantastic unbeaten innings of 83 runs, which eventually helped CSK to reach 183 in 20 overs.
Earlier in the day, Chennai skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 won the toss and elected to bat first, hoping to put up a massive score on the board.
Dhoni’s decision proved correct when the two openers Michael Hussey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 gave a 51-run stand for the first wicket.
The two players were looking settled when Ryan Ninan did the damage for
Bangalore. After being smacked for a massive six, the brave Ninan once again gave a full flighted delivery to Vijay, inviting him to go for another strike. Vijay obliged, but this time, it did not work for him. He was caught at long-off after
making 31 runs with the help of 33 boundaries and 2 sixes.
The runs did not stop flowing after Vijay’s departure, as Suresh Raina walked out to the crease and started smashing the ball within no time. Hussey meanwhile continued with his marvellous work and timed the ball pretty well.
The two batsmen had put together a destructive partnership of 45 runs when Ninan yet again did the trick. Raina tried to hit the big shot but he was clearly away from pitch of the ball, resulting a mis-hit straight into the hands of the fielder at
extra cover.
Raina went back to the pavilion after adding 29 runs to the total. The fall of Raina brought the skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 at the crease. Dhoni took a steady start, playing a couple balls defensively to set his eye in. By the start of the 16th over,
Dhoni decided to take the charge and hit Zaheer Khan for a boundary and a six off two consecutive balls.
After being hit by Dhoni, Zaheer went round the wicket trying to angle the ball in but the ball held its line and the CSK captain edged it into the palms of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887. Dhoni managed 22 runs off 16 balls.
After Dhoni’s exit, no one in the lower-order contributed with much runs. Albie Morkel got out after making just 9 runs, while Subramaniam Badrinath could put in only 5 runs before he got out.
However, Hussey continued to play well until the end, placing the ball into the gaps perfectly. With the help of 11 boundaries and 1 six, the Australian left-hander scored 83 runs from just 56 balls.
The Challengers were awful in the fielding, as they gave away some easy runs.
In the Royal Challengers bowling, Ninan was the pick of the bowlers, taking 2 wickets for 31 runs in 3 overs. Johan van der Wath also dismissed a couple of batsmen, while Zaheer Khan chipped in with one wicket.
Royal Challengers now need 184 runs to win at a scoring rate of just over 9 per over.
