Michael Hussey puts Chennai Super Kings in control: Rajasthan Royals v Chennai Super Kings 1st Innings Report - Part 1
A chance at finishing fourth and going on to the semi-finals was on the line for both sides as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rajasthan-c837 Royals took on Chennai Super Kings in the league’s 52nd match on May 9, 2011.
The atmosphere at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, in Jaipur, had a mixture of anticipation and excitement that only an Indian Premier League match could bring.
Shane Warne, the Rajasthan Royals’ captain and his Chennai Super King counterpart, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 made their way onto the pitch for the toss.
There was a buzz in the air when Shane Warne opted to send the Super Kings in to bat first. The crowd would get to see Dhoni bat, and witness the spin-king, Warne, bowl a few overs.
Michael Hussey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Murali-Vijay-c78035 made their way on to the crease to get their side’s inning under way. The crowd watched with excitement when Menaria stormed in to bowl the first delivery of the over.
It was a bit of an anti-climax for the Rajasthan fans, but quite the opposite for the Super Kings’ when Hussey dispatched the ball to the boundary. The over brought with it a solid seven runs.
Amit Singh faced similar treatment when Hussey emphatically smashed him for a boundary that pretty much made clear the batsman’s intentions. It was a thriller for the batting side and a concern for the bowlers.
Menaria did not help his side as the Super Kings’ opening pair raced away to 25 runs after three overs.
Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 was furious with Rahane’s lazy effort at taking the catch that could have sent Murali Vijay back to the pavilion early on. Murali made full use of the opportunity and made Rajasthan regret their mistake.
Hussey and Vijay combined for 13 runs off Singh. The Royals were anxious and looking to get Hussey out.
The opening pair would bat on till the second delivery of the 10th over, when to Warne’s relief Johan Botha’s delivery crashed into Michael Hussey’s stumps. A huge cheer erupted around the stadium as Hussey departed for 46 runs.
At the end of the first 10 overs the Chennai Super Kings looked comfortable at 84 for 1.
