Michael Hussey says It gets harder and harder the longer you play – Cricket News Update
Michael Hussey, the protagonist of Team Australia’s series victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, asserts that a long on-field career always brings certain pressures, doubts and insecurities for a cricketer as it is hard for him to make a comeback after one upheaval.
The legendary middle-order batsman has revealed that he also faces distractions and qualms before every game but tries to shell them out and play with a clear mind. He is of the view that as a player gets older, he has to shoulder more responsibilities and
face tough challenges while playing alongside youngsters.
Talking to the media yesterday, Hussey said, “Certainly as you get older there's probably more pressure because you can't really afford a lean spell. Once you go it's going to be hard to fight your way back into the team. My preparation for the game is about
really trying to eliminate all the distractions.”
He further told, “There are so many pressures and distractions and negative thoughts and doubts going through your mind, but being able to clear your mind of all those things and just focus solely on the ball, that's what I try and practise.”
Mr Cricket, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942, who sports averages of more than 50 in both Test and ODI formats of the game, argues that coping with and overcoming challenges forms the character of a great player.
Hussey fabulously maneuvered the 3-match ODI series to his team’s favour by lashing 45 not-out in the final game against the Proteas, on October 28, 2011, at Kingsmead, Durban. Courtesy to Hussey's responsible batting, the Aussies bagged the series 2-1.
Now, the left-hander is determined to play the upcoming two Test matches with the same form. The 36-year-old has spelled out that he does not want to hang his boots yet as he considers himself fit enough to play longer.
Since starting his International career in 2004, Hussey has played 62 Test, 166 ODI and 27 T20I games so far, scoring 5113, 4862 and 457 runs respectively in the three formats. Consistency has been a marked feature of the gifted batsman.
