http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942 secures his 15th Test century – Cricket News Update
Australian middle-order batsman, Michael Hussey, registered his 15th successful Test century on Day two of the Test fixture against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, at the Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
Hussey has so far been one of the most consistent batters on the Australian touring Test squad, delivering an impressive, controlled performance, throughout the 3-match series, that came as the final leg of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s tour to Sri Lanka.
As for the batter’s 15th ton, Hussey achieved the landmark in the 98th over of the Australian opening innings that kicked off on Friday, after the tourists were put in to bat first by the Lankan toss winning Captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691.
Unfortunately for the Aussies, the team commenced its innings with an unexpected start as opening batter, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SE-Marsh-c2470 to accompany
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558.
The newly formed pair managed to trail through a few more overs, but was finally parted after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Watson-c96326 too, walked off after being caught out on Shaminda Eranga’s delivery during the 9th over of the Day’s opening session.
However, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 taking over the session, the batters managed to stall the innings through a 79-run partnership, following which Ponting departed for the pavilion just a couple runs short of his half century.
Another quick blow came for the tourists, as skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 failed to offer much to his team, walking off on a minor 6, leaving star batter, Hussey to take on the task for stabilising the proceedings - and so he did.
Much was expected from the Marsh-Hussey duo, which exhibited some decent batting on the crease, but failed to go on after new comer Marsh was forced into exiting the pitch at an impressive 81.
The day finally came to its closure with Hussey and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/BJ-Haddin-c1170 retaining their stumps at a total of 235 for 5, with Eranga and Lakmal being the pick of the bowlers for the day, securing 2 wickets apiece.
Day 2, however, kicked off with another troubled start for Australia that came with Haddin’s early wicket, but for Hussey, the batter retained his calm, which rewarded the batsman with a deserving 15th Test century, earned over a 6-year-long Test
career.
