Michael Hussey should be selected for Ashes: Mickey Arthur
Despite all the criticism that Mike Hussey has got in the recent times for his lack of runs in the five-day format of the game, coach of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mickey-Arthur-c1969, has said that the Australian selectors
would be making a mistake if they didn't pick up Hussey for the Ashes. Australia will go into the Ashes that starts from 25 November at Brisbane with three losses in three Test matches and some of it has to do with a brittle middle-order.
Hussey’s form in the ODIs has much more decent than the longer version. He had scored a half century in the only ODI that he played in India and followed it up with the unbeaten 71 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 today
at Melbourne.
Arthur does not have any problems with Hussey’s form though. He said that apart from form, it was experience that was the key and that could be Hussey’s big plus. The former South African coach added, "He
has a wealth of experience. You need your experienced players in a Test match against England and the first Test match of a series, it's really important."
Hussey’s Test match record in recent times is anything but extraordinary. In the past year and a half, Hussey has made two 100s and in the last four Tests that he played against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, he has
scored only 168 runs at an average of 24 runs apiece. What made the situation worse for him was that he scored only three runs in the two innings for Western Australia against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 in the first class game earlier this week.
Arthur empathised with Hussey and said that when the runs stop to come, it does become difficult to put one’s chin up. However, Arthur said that Hussey was doing well in the nets and there were no technical
deficiencies in his game.
Arthur added, “Mike will be fine and I expect him to play in that first Test match. He just needs a hit-out somewhere and he'll get that in the one-dayers and he'll be fine."
