Michael J Meyer wins 200m back-stroke heat at South Africa Age Group Swimming Championships
Michael J Meyer stunned the arena with his dynamic swimming technique, when he earned the fastest swimmer label in the Men’s 200m back-stroke event. Among all the age group swimmers who competed in the 200m back-stroke in their respective age brackets, Meyer
is the most favourite athlete to bring down the old record set by Darren Murray, in a stunning time of 1:59.84 minutes.
The teenager took a lead from his fellow swimmers in the start and managed to remain in the first position throughout the meet, despite a comparatively slow final lap in a time of 2:06.43 minutes. He was followed by Niel DE Villiers and Chris Vd Sande, who
qualified as the second and third fastest back-stroke swimmers in a time of 2:07.65 and 2:08.22 minutes, respectively.
In the younger swimmers age group of the same category, the 16-year-old Paul Van Achterbergh, who had a seed time of 2:06.02 minutes, touched the wall in 2:09.02 minutes in the preliminary rounds. Zaahir Gambiet and Reynier Pretorius followed him for their
second and third fastest qualification spots, in a time of 2:12.49 and 2:14.19 minutes, respectively.
The 15-year-old Reid Christopher won the same event in his age group to qualify as the fastest swimmer into the finals, in a nice time of 2:13.64 minutes ahead of Liam Fourie and Martin Binedell, who touched the finishing wall in a time of 2:14.35 and 2:14.58
minutes, respectively.
In the Women’s corner, 18-year-old Natasha DE Vos qualified as the fastest swimmer into the finals with a timing of 2:18.54 minutes. She was far ahead from the second fastest finisher, Fabienne Marsay, who clocked a time of 2:25.72 minutes. Kathryn Baumann
touched the wall in 2:26.67 minutes for the third fastest finish.
Sarah-Ann Bouwer was the fastest swimmer in the 200m back-stroke heats in the age group of 16-years-old, clocking a time of 2:27.89 minutes against Tamlin Crafford and Lindsay McLeod, who finished as the second and third fastest swimmers in a time of 2:27.99
and 2:28.39 minutes, respectively.
The 15-year-old Janneke Malan was quite impressive in the swim than her senior age group swimmers, as she registered a time of 2:20.93 minutes ahead of Chanel Johnston and Alexandra Quenet, who touched the finishing wall in a time of 2:25.64 and 2:26.18
minutes, respectively.
