Michael Jack Nobbs selected as the new coach of the Indian National Hockey Team
Michael Jack Nobbs has been appointed as the new coach for the Indian national hockey team for a record period of five years. With his appointment all the assumptions and conjectures have been cleared out which have been prevailing for a number of weeks.
The place was vacant since the completion of Jose Brasa’s contract, which finished after the Asian Games last year. The 57-year-old former Australian hockey player, Nobbs, has been preferred over both the Dutch legends, Jacques Brinkman and Roelant Oltmans. The
contract is the first ever in Indian hockey that is based on performance.
The contract will be in running till the next Olympic Games which will be conducted in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2016.
"Under my chairmanship, Sports Authority of India committee and Hockey India unanimously selected Nobbs as our coach for the period up to 2016 Rio Olympics," Deepak Kumar, the Director General of Sports Authority of India (SAI), told after the Nobbs appointment
as the coach.
"I am very excited, honoured and privileged to get this job," Nobbs, the veteran and seasoned campaigner from Australia stated his views on his selection.
Michael Jack Nobbs looked very pleased and exciting on being appointed as the coach of Indian hockey team.
"The selection was based on several factors, his experience, organising capabilities and the presentation he made before us. What weighed in his favour is the fact that the Australian style of hockey is similar to ours and we have decided to continue with
that," Deepak Kumar further stated regarding the professional experience of Michael Nobbs.
Initially, the offered package is for AUS $10,000 per month, but it will be increased along with some incentives if the Indian National hockey team shows improved performance in the near future tournaments.
If the Indian team manages to qualify for 2012 London Olympics, he will get a 10 percent increment in his monthly package. His monthly package and incentives will also be increased if the Indian team excels in the same way in the upcoming year.
