Michael Jamieson dominates Men’s 200m breaststroke semi-finals – 2012 London Olympic Games
Michael Jamieson of Great Britain dominated the semi-finals of Men’s 200m breaststroke on fourth day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Olympic Games in London Aquatics Centre on Tuesday, July 31.
The 23-year-old Jamieson demonstrated his astonishing efforts in the distant breaststroke discipline and proved his eligibility in the playoff as top contender for gold medal. The British swimmer faced strong contest from Daniel Gyurta of Hungary throughout the race but managed to outperform him over the finishing wall for first position.
With his impeccable efforts, Jamieson remained just an inch ahead of his opponent and finished first in the race by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 08.20 seconds.
His fastest qualification effort was followed by Gyurta, who was 0.12 seconds apart and secured second position of the race by touching the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.32 seconds.
The Hungarian expert remained in a lead of 0.15 seconds over Jamieson’s team-member, Andrew Willis, who entered the final round as third fastest swimmer by producing a time of 2 minutes and 08.47 seconds.
Afterwards, Willis was chased by Scott Weltz of USA, who remained nearly half a second apart and appeared on the finishing blockade as fourth fastest swimmer with the timing of 2 minutes and 08.99 seconds.
Fifth finest qualification spot of the race was secured by Kosuke Kitajima of Japan, who remained just 0.04 seconds behind and settled on the finishing end by reporting an effort of 2 minutes and 09.03 seconds.
The Japanese swimmer was followed by Clark Burckle of USA, who remained only 0.08 seconds behind and produced an effort of 2 minutes and 09.11 seconds for sixth position.
Subsequently, Burckle was chased by Ryo Tateishi of Japan, who was 0.02 seconds slower and ended seventh in the discipline by touching the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 09.13 seconds.
Tateishi was traced by Brenton Rickard of Australia, who finished his race in eighth best place by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 09.31 seconds.
Furthermore, Jamieson aroused expectations of his followers by saying that he would try to sustain his spot in the playoff.
