Michael Jamieson wins Men’s 200m breast-stroke title – Scottish National Swimming Championships
Michael Jamieson of Edinburgh University conquered the Men’s 200m breast-stroke final on the first day of the 2011 Scottish Gas National Swimming Open Championships.
Jamieson was the fastest swimmer of the meet and he comfortably pocketed the title of the event, by touching the finishing wall in a sterling time of 2 minutes and 13.04 seconds. His fastest swimming effort placed him almost three seconds ahead of his strongest
competitor, Jamie Ross of Stirling Swim, who completed his swim in the second fastest time and reached the podium for the silver medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 16.19 seconds. He was followed by Jamieson’s team-member, Andrew Rodgie, who was the
third fastest swimmer of the swim, as he touched the finishing wall in a fabulous time of 2 minutes and 16.31 seconds for the bronze medal.
Jamieson was almost four seconds above the senior mark of 2 minutes and 09.01 seconds, set by Kris Gilchrist in 2009. Nevertheless, his time was prominently under the junior mark of 2 minutes and 18.85 seconds, made by Mark Branch in 2003.
Andrew Willis of Bracknell stayed 0.61 seconds behind Rodgie and touched the wall in a fourth fastest time of 2 minutes and 16.92 seconds. His astonishing swim placed him nearly three second ahead of his strongest rival, Ross Muir of F.I.R.S.T, who appeared
on the finishing wall as the fifth fastest swimmer, by clocking in a time of 2 minutes and 19.80 seconds.
Taki Mrabet of Tunisia was the sixth fastest swimmer of the event, as he concluded his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 21.24 seconds. He was followed by Jamie Graham of Co Glasgow, who stayed almost one second behind and finished seventh by touching the
finishing wall in a time of 2 minutes and 22.51 seconds. Luke Howdle of Nova Centurion completed his swim in the eighth place, by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 23.43 seconds.
The championship will run for three consecutive days to conclude the entire scheduled swimming events.
