Michael Jordan helps several good causes with Celebrity Invitational
The third in a row Michael Jordan Golf Celebrity Invitational will now be played at the Shadow Creek Golf Course in Las Vegas. Jordan confirmed it in a press conference on Thursday night to a congregation of hundreds of fan gathered in the Haze of Aria,
which has never been opened to the public before. This will be Jordan’s 10th Celebrity Invitational over the years which will benefit three charity organizations including Make-A-Wish Foundation, Nevada Cancer Institute, Cats Care and the James
R. Jordan Foundation. Jordan, the greatest NBA player in the history of the sport, has been promoting charity campaigns for quite some time and is arduously supported by his girlfriend Yvette Prieto. He has been successfully able to invite some of the hottest
celebrities from both professional sports as well as the Hollywood, making the events a star studded gathering.
“Everybody is very happy about the tournament moving to Las Vegas,” Jordan said. “But I think that they’re worried about the golf course because most of them have never had a chance to play Shadow Creek. This is the very first public tournament. … I love
Shadow Creek. I always have. I always felt like it was one of the top golf courses that I’ve played.”
As the most fabulous celebrities of the world stepped on the red carpet one by one, fans roared and cheered their idols, giving Shadow Creek a unique atmosphere that it never experienced before. Legendary Ice Hockey player, “The Great One” Wayne Gretzky,
along with his wife Janet Jones Gretzky fueled the fan uproar with their appearance and said that they are thrilled to be the part of this event. “The greatest thing about being celebrities or professional athletes is the opportunity to help people who are
less fortunate and help charities around the world. Michael is always there to help people, and we’re just part of this whole team.”
Toby Keith also made an appearance on the red carpet dressed up in a black cap, jeans and beige corduroy shirt. Michael Finley was excited about the prospects but also warned that the course may have some surprises for the players. Halle Barry’s ex boyfriend,
Gabriel Aubrey, was also part of the celebrity band wagon and smiled to the fans. Brett Hull along with wife Darcie waved to the audience. “Wow, this feels like Hollywood!” said an excited Brett.
Jordan’s longtime friends Larry David and Jerome Bettis “the bus” were also there to participate in the tournament but remained skeptical about their playing abilities. David joked that he rarely plays tournaments as he is afraid he might end up killing
somebody. The event is scheduled to tee off on Friday morning with the final round and closing ceremony is on Sunday. After today’s first round of the Celebrity-Amateur competition, the players will dine at Eva Longoria’s steakhouse “Beso” at Crystals.
