Michael Jordan looking forward to a good next season for the Charlotte Bobcats – NBA News
Michael Jordan is a man with a ruthless competitive spirit. You can’t achieve what he has achieved in his life without a hunger and obsession for winning. So it must have been difficult for Jordan to sit on the sidelines and watch
the Charlotte Bobcats, which he owns, lose game after game to finish with the worst record of the season, also the worst ever in the history of the league.
Jordan has admitted that it was the most difficult thing for him to endure throughout his basketball career.
"Obviously, I'm a competitor, and I never want to be in the record books for failure," said Jordan.
Jordan is the owner of the Bobcats, who finished with a 7-59 record last season, the worst winning percentage in NBA history. However, Jordan feels that good times are coming for the Bobcats and has belief in the core he has assembled
for next season.
Gerald Henderson, Bismack Biyombo, Kemba Walker, and rookies Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeffrey Taylor make up the young core of this team, which will be coached by newly hired Mike Dunlap.
The Bobcats fired former Head Coach Paul Silas after the 2011-2012 season which led them to a coach hunt involving 10 coaches, before they decided on Dunlap. But Jordan is confident in his decision, and feels Dunlap is the right
man to coach and develop this young group of players.
"Mike is going to be a good developmental young coach and he's going to work with these kids and make sure they continue to progress. We're trying to build a very strong culture in this franchise and I think we have the right personnel
to do so. It can be a matter of time. It really all depends on how fast these kids develop."
Jordan is particularly excited about his second overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft, small forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist from Kentucky. He has compared him to his former Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen, calling him a connector
who has the ability to make things happen both ends of the floor.
The Bobcats have pursued this free agency with a great deal of aggression. They traded with the Detroit Pistons to land Ben Gordon and a future first round pick. In return, Corey Maggette was sent to the Pistons.
They have also reportedly agreed to a two year contract with free agent and former Lakers point guard Ramon Sessions. However, this deal is yet to be announced.
Heading into next season, Jordan feels his team is better equipped than last year and has full confidence in his new coach. It will take some time before the Bobcats can become contenders or qualify for the playoffs, but Jordan
feels that the team and the organization is moving in the right direction.
