Michael Jordan re-iterates his loyalty to the Charlotte Bobcats – NBA Update
The Charlotte Bobcats have been losing by an average of 13.1 points a game this season and are now being reckoned as NBA’s worst team after the 1992-93 Dallas Mavericks (15.2 points per game). There is no avenue in which the Bobcats
haven’t faced fiasco in this season. With 7 wins and 43 loses, they have nested permanently at the bottom of Eastern Conference and are currently on a 8 game losing streak.
Bobcats’ never ending plight has reportedly instigated franchise’s majority owner, the legendary Michael Jordan, to have second thoughts about the ownership. Earlier this week it was learnt that Jordan was thinking about selling
the franchise.
“I told Rich to make us better,” Jordan told one associate recently. “If that doesn’t work and I can’t make a profit in the next three to four years, then I’m selling.”
The statement attracted a lot of criticism from the North Carolina fans and days later, MJ had to retract the statement.
''I was disturbed to hear the false report that I intend to sell my majority interest in the Charlotte Bobcats,'' Jordan said in a statement. ''I am 100 percent committed to building the Bobcats into a contender and have no plans
to sell the team.''
Being an entrepreneur Jordan has a greater plan in his mind, he is rebuilding the team and it will take some time before the plan gets together.
Ever since Jordan took over, the franchise has been making trades at a rapid speed and during the last one year or so, the Bobcats have traded away veterans like Gerald Wallace and Stephen Jackson and replaced them with new talent.
This move allowed Jordan to save a lot in terms of the salary cap while he roped in Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo to help the struggling team. Apart from these two rookies, a lot of young talent has been induced in the team.
For Jordan, youth is the bottom line.
They have inducted Byron Mullens, Gerald Henderson and D.J. Augustin in the continuity of said plan even though these youngsters haven’t proved to be prolific so far.
The Bobcats recently waived off Boris Diaw, another veteran, but the dismal season has strengthened Charlotte’s chances to get one of the 1st four lottery picks in NBA draft.
